What will my pup learn through training?
Your pup will learn basic and intermediate obedience such as sit, stay, loose leash walking, leave it, drop it, place, heel, and focus. More-so, your pup will learn restraint, self-control, impulse control, and build confidence in the process.
Will I be updated on my pup's progress during the immersion weeks?
You will receive daily progress reports as well as weekly feedback. Trusting someone else to care for your pup can be a big step so, you're welcome to check in on your pup anytime, you will have a direct line to text 24/7.
Who will be my Leadership Coach For My Virtual Sessions?
You will receive FOUR one-on-one virtual leadership coaching sessions with Erica Ryal, Owner and Lead Trainer at MyBigDog™ Erica is a certified dog trainer and certified coach with a speciality in Sport & Performance Psychology. She has over 2 decades of experience coaching people to their best performance and well-being and is dedicated to empowering you to be your pup's most trusted and effective leader while also being mindful of your own well-being. These private coaching sessions are a unique and vital component of you and your pup's success. Each coaching session is designed to support and empower you, the parent, on effective leadership for your unique pup's temperament style, energy level, role, and guide you to overcome any specific challenges or circumstances.
How much do I have to participate?
For 16 full days and nights you get a well-deserved and guilt-free break as your pup will be onsite at our facility for training! PPPS is a 6 week program. Week 1 and 6 your pup will be home with you and you will participate in 4 virtual private coaching sessions (60 minutes each). Weeks 2-5 is the 4-week onsite full-immersion portion of the program (aka stay, play, train). Thus, you will only participate on the weekends (Friday-Sunday night) when your pup is back home with you. This time is where we practice transfer of leadership and learning, test your home environment, and tweak systems to fit your unique set up.
What training method do you use?
While our program delivers fast results, we never use aggressive or harsh training methods. We use positive reinforcement, trust-based leadership, patience and focus, along with consistent and deliberate practice in an intentional environment. Our full-immersion approach to learning in combination with one-on-one leadership coaching with our pup parents is how we deliver optimal results quickly but safely. Our training methods put your pup's well-being ahead of his/her performance. This creates an optimal state of learning for every training session. Our curriculum was developed by Pet Expert and Animal Planet's Host Travis Brorsen and Academy Training Solutions. Our tried and true curriculum and dedicated approach, provide you and your pup with a positive, purposeful, and powerful training experience
When can I get started?
If there is an open spot for your pup, you may be able to enroll right away. Start dates can be confirmed during your Big Pup Consult. Requirements to begin the program is a up-to-date veterinary care. Ideal pre-requisites for the program are that your pup is crate and potty-trained. If not, we can address this in your consult.
What supplies will I need to participate and to send with my pup?
This depends on your pup and your home set-up. Below is a list of the basic and most common supplies
What kind of environment will my pup be in?
Your pup will be onsite at Erica's home for an exclusive and intentional real-world training experience. During off-site training your pup will be at pre-screened local parks, home improvement, and pet stores who welcome non-service dogs.
What age does my pup need to be?
5-9 months of age is ideal for Proud Parent Puppy School. However, some pups outside of this age range are accepted into the program. Enrollment acceptance depends on the individual situation and your pup's health and capacity for learning.
